Chinese fighter jet advances on Taiwan for fourth straight day

A Chinese fighter jet approached Taiwan for the fourth consecutive day on Friday, Taiwanese defense officials said, a sign of rising cross-strait tensions as the island deepens its relationship with the U.S.

Twitter has permanently suspended the account of right-wing British media personality Katie Hopkins, who had amassed over a million followers and was retweeted by US President Donald Trump.
“Keeping Twitter safe is a top priority for us. Abuse and hateful conduct have no place on our service, and we will continue to take action when our rules are broken,” the social media company said in a statement on Friday. Source RT

European Central Bank hands out 1.3 trillion euros in loans for minus 1% interest

The European Central Bank has handed out 1.31 trillion euros ($1.46 trillion) in long-term, ultra-cheap credit to hundreds of banks as part of its emergency support aimed at cushioning the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on businesses and worker. The ECB said Thursday that 742 banks across the 19 countries that use the euro currency took up the credit offer, which can carry a negative interest rate of as low as minus 1.0% so long as banks keep up their lending to businesses. NATO opens probe into France-Turkey naval incident in Mediterranean

NATO is investigating an incident in the Eastern Mediterranean in which France says Turkish frigates were “extremely aggressive” towards a French navy vessel participating in a NATO mission in the area, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday (18 June).

“The incident in the Mediterranean was addressed in the meeting by several allies,” Stoltenberg said after a virtual meeting of NATO defence ministers. Source EurActiv
