AfD Delegation meets with Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov

A delegation of Germany’s AfD met the Russian Foreign Minister in Moscow. The party continues to establish its relationship with the Kremlin.

During a visit by two AfD politicians to Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov praised the party’s role in “maintaining” German-Russian relations. It was imperative to develop contacts with those who want to “overcome the existing problems,” Lavrov said on Tuesday at a meeting with AfD co-chair Tino Chrupalla and parliamentary group vice-chair Armin-Paul Hampel, the AfD’s foreign policy spokesman. Soaring eurozone government debt reignites call for cancellation

Eurozone governments’ borrowing has rocketed to fund their response to the coronavirus pandemic, reigniting longstanding calls for the European Central Bank to ease debt burdens by forgiving sovereign bonds it owns.

The proposal was floated by academic economists as an answer to the single currency area’s last debt crisis in 2012. Senior Italian officials have recently stirred up the idea once more, suggesting the ECB could forgive debt bought through its asset purchase programme or swap it for perpetual bonds, which are never repaid.  Source Financial Times

US plans latest arms sale to Taiwan, ‘PLA will be ready’

The US is planning the sale of a battlefield communications system to Taiwan island, marking the sixth US arms sale to the island this year, as the Taiwan authorities claimed on Tuesday such exchanges have become “routine.”

By deploying this system, the island’s military will become fully reliant on the US, and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will be ready if the island resists reunification by force, Chinese mainland military experts said on Tuesday.

The US State Department has approved a possible sale of a Field Information Communications System and related equipment to the island of Taiwan for an estimated cost of $280 million, with the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notifying the US Congress of this possible sale on Monday, according to a statement the DSCA released on its website.
