Eighteen militants of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) have been killed in a security operation. Most of the deaths centered on Lice, where 14 PKK militants were killed. In a separate incident, four alleged PKK members were killed in Silvan, around 90 kilometers east of Diyabakir, on Wednesday.
Turkey’s central bank demoted at least nine high-ranking officials including chief economist Hakan Kara, two officials said. The bank’s heads of research, banking, risk management and institutional transformation are among those who are getting new roles.
