Yemeni Houthi armed forces today purportedly struck facilities of Saudi oil giant Aramco in the southwestern part of Saudi Arabia as well as the airport of Abha in the kingdom, Iranian Fars News reports. The attacks—the second such reported incident in a week–according to Iranian media reports citing Yemeni sources, came in retaliation for Saudi air strikes targeting civilians in Yemen. Aden, Taiz, Najran- Saudi Aramco denied that it was targeted, assuring that all of its facilities are safe and operating normally, in a statement issued on Friday.
Aramco’s statement followed claims by Iranian channels that an Aramco oil facility was targeted in Najran, south of Saudi Arabia. Aramco, however, has no facilities there on the Saudi-Yemeni border except for a depot for distributing oil products. Furthermore, it is not located in Najran but in Jizan.
