Japanese population falls for 10th straight year

The number of Japanese people living in Japan as of Jan. 1 fell by 433,239, or 0.35 percent, from a year before to 124,776,364, down for the 10th straight year, the government said Wednesday.

The decline was the largest ever both in terms of number and percentage, data released by the internal affairs ministry showed. The figures are based on data in the country’s resident registry system. Source Japan Times

France says Italy acting in ‘hysterical’ manner on immigration issues

France has accused the Italian government of failing to carry out its duties in terms of immigration, claiming Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has been constructing a ‘hysterical’ climate on the subject of immigration.

“Mr. Matteo Salvini’s behaviour has not been acceptable as far as I am concerned,” French government spokesperson Sibeth Ndiaye said on French television BFM-TV. Source RFI
