Russia announces plan to permanently leave G8 group of industrialised nations after suspension for Crimea annexation

Russia has announced its intention to permanently walk away from the G8 group of industrialised nations – more than two years after it was kicked out over the illegal annexation of Crimea. Moscow said it had no intention of re-joining the influential bloc – which brings together the world’s richest countries to discuss global issues from economic growth to terrorism – even if it was invited to do so. Parliament approves three more articles amid heated brawl (video)

The third, fourth and fifth articles of the constitutional amendment package, which include moves to reduce the age of candidacy in presidential elections, passed with over 341 votes in late night sessions on Jan. 11 and 12, while main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) lawmakers’ staunch criticism and their attempt to occupy the parliamentary chair led to fury among lawmakers.
