French far-right leader Marine Le Pen voiced outrage Thursday (Sept 20) after being ordered to undergo psychiatric tests for having posted pictures of atrocities committed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group on Twitter. Bulgaria to Back Hungary Over Article 7 Process

Under nationalist pressure, Bulgaria’s government looks set to oppose any move to deprive Hungary of its voting rights in the EU, due to fears of democratic backsliding. Bulgaria’s government, led by Boyko Borissov, will soon draft a position opposing a pending vote to initiate the Article 7 process that could take away Hungary’s right to vote in the Council of the EU. Greece to move 2,000 asylum-seekers from overcrowded Lesbos

Greece said on Tuesday it would move 2,000 asylum-seekers from the island of Lesbos to the mainland by the end of the month as pressure mounted on the government to ease overcrowding. Human rights groups and local authorities have criticized Greece for the poor conditions at the country’s biggest migrant camp, Moria, currently operating at almost three times its capacity. German domestic intelligence head relieved of duties, but promoted

Hans-Georg Maassen is changing jobs. The move is a compromise between Social Democrats, who demanded Maassen’s removal, and conservative Interior Minister Horst Seehofer. Hans-Georg Maassen, the under-fire head of the domestic intelligence agency — formally known as the “Office for the Protection of the Constitution” (BfV) — will be stripped of his current job but gain a theoretically better one as a deputy head of the interior ministry. Bulgarians Protest Against Investigative Reporters’ Arrests

Protesters demonstrated outside the Palace of Justice in Sofia against the arrest of two reporters who were detained last week in Bulgaria while investigating alleged fraud involving EU funds. Some 200 people demonstrated outside the Palace of Justice in central Sofia on Monday evening against the arrests last week of Romanian and Bulgarian investigative reporters who were working on a story about the abuse of EU funds.
