Poland to sign $414 million deal for rocket launchers

Poland has intensified efforts to acquire new weapons and expand its defense capabilities as a response to Russia’s intervention in Ukraine and its annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014. The acquisition will allow the country to become the second Eastern European ally to purchase HIMARS, following Romania which signed a letter of agreement with the United States in February 2018 to acquire the system. Egyptian billionaire: Trump is right about China

  • Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris said “President Trump is right” in saying that China has taken advantage of other countries.
  • Still, he said, the leadership in Beijing seems willing to make what changes it can and there’s likely to be some resolution to the ongoing U.S.-China trade war.
  • However, Sawiris said other countries are “justified” in their concerns that Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei could be a security risk.

Ismaël Emelien, Macron’s ’closest’ advisor, announces resignation

smaël Emelien, a close aide to President Emmanuel Macron whose name has recently been linked to the so-called “Benalla Affair”, has become the latest member of the president’s entourage to announce his resignation. Emelien, who served as Macron’s “special advisor” and was frequently described as his closest confidant, said in an interview with French weekly Le Point on Monday that he would be quitting by early April at the latest. Sweden extends border controls, citing continued ‘threat’

“The decision is based on the government’s assessment that there is a threat to public order and internal security in Sweden,” a government press release stated.
In autumn 2015, Sweden introduced border checks on car and train traffic at the Öresund Bridge, as well as at ports in Varberg, Gothenburg, Malmö, Helsingborg and Trelleborg. The measures were in response to the large influx of migrants into the country. Source: The Local Sweden
