EU restates Balkans pledge, warns of Russia

Italy has warned that Russia is competing with the EU for influence in the Western Balkans, as the bloc underlined its old enlargement pledge. “There are other regional or global powers that are very interested in having an influence in this region,” Italian prime minister Paolo Gentiloni told press. Macron calls on Merkel to help correct ‘dysfunctional’ eurozone

The French president is hosting the German chancellor in Paris on Thursday for a Franco-German summit. According to the president, the European Union remains an incomplete project and will need treaty changes to bring greater convergence in eurozone member states.
